Employer: Design Packaging

Aside from my role as the Senior Graphic Designer, I also worked as the Social Media Strategist. My role involved managing social media channels to help the company gain online penetration, awareness, engage followers and establish relationships.

All pieces of the puzzle were strategically designed and set in place for maximum exposure by writing articles on The Moodboard company blog, which were then filtered through to DP's social media channels and weekly emails.

To help differentiate the company from other packaging manufacturing companies, a focus on trendy aesthetics, bright poppy colors, fashion-forward imagery, and a youthful yet professional tone of voice was used. Tagging and hashtags were thoughtfully used for each post to maximize exposure and interactions.

Design Packaging's Pinterest account acts as a source for inspiration, and aspiration for both company and followers. The boards and pins were compiled to represent who DP was as a company, represent their aesthetic and personality. Pins part of campaigns or social media were strategically pinned and re-pinned to increase the company's web presence.

In fact, it was so successful that Kenneth Cole's creative team noticed it, liked what they saw, and prompted them to reach out for a partnership in the production of their rebrand in packaging.

Design Packaging's twitter account was used as another social outlet to further the company's online penetration, ultimately leading followers back to the company website. Self promotion, blog posts, social media posts as well as interacting with followers and retweeted content was used on a daily basis. All of these along with strategic timing helped raise the number of followers from a few thousand to roughly thirteen thousand, currently.

Most everyone uses music to focus and power through their work day, so why not create a dedicated playlist where fans of Design Packaging could come and listen to what DP's listening to? Every quarter, and on special occasions, music was hand-selected and compiled with fresh tracks. Music was strategically chosen to keep un upbeat, positive vibe that reflected the company's brand.

Worked with the intern, Christa MacDonald, to help tell her story of how Birchbox's business model and packaging had her hooked on the giant beauty subscription service company. A cute, short stop-motion video was produced featuring different boxes in various printing methods along with her playful doodles.

New York-based Communal Creative partnered with FORMA Structural Packaging to develop an amazing packaging system for Twist LEDs that combine high-quality, adjustable LED lighting and a wireless speaker into one seamless home experience. Design Packaging collaborated with both teams and the start-up Twist, to develop the manufacturing, QC, and QA processes for mass production.

Coach, one of Design Packaging's clients partnered with Disney for a limited edition collaboration. I wrote a piece with a focus on the packaging that carried the Mickey theme from leather goods to boxes and bags.

In time for the holidays, I put together The Packaging Designer’s Holiday Gift Guide and Wish List – Design Packaging's first collection of gifts any packaging designer would ask Santa for. These packaging designer-chic gifts range from Shinola exactos and Tom Dixon rulers to Issey Miyake’s origami-inspired bags.

Neil Gilks is an influential force in the New York fashion industry who’s served on the CFDA, worked with Diane Von Furstenberg, and actively passes on his discerning creativity to the students at RISD. As a contact of mine through Instagram, I asked if he would be up for collaborating by illustrating his siganture face illustrations on some of Design Packaging's luxury retail shopping bags – the results were amazing.
